Integrated Life Cycle Assessment Modelling of Densified Fuel Production from Various Biomass Species

This work presents new data on the life cycle impact assessment of various lignocellulosic biomass types in Mexico. A comparative model densification systems was conducted. An integrated approach that incorporated process variables, such as technology and variations feed properties, within analysis employed to evaluate environmental producing 1 MJ energy-containing densified fuel. The results show unit curing (fuel drying) have highest cycle’s operational energy total energy, respectively. Of all 33 from 17 species sources considered this study, sweet sorghum sandbur grass global warming potential, 0.26 0.24 (kg CO2-eq), human toxicity 0.58 0.53 1,4-dichlorobenzene-eq), respectively, while coffee pulp cooperi pine wood least both categories, with values 0.08 0.09 0.17 0.16 Chichicaxtla sawmill slabs also a low impact, Ceiba lowest ozone depletion ecotoxicity potential. sensitivity indicated effects transportation system source impact. Adequate preparation, blending multiple feeds optimum ratio, careful selection could improve performance densifying some low-bulk-density types.
